Interview With Yoyo Yeung, the Artist of YOKI

In this interview, we ask Yoyo Yeung what were her inspirations for becoming an artist and what she aims to achieve through her art.

Did you always want to be an artist?
I didn't think about becoming an artist when I was younger. I think the most important thing for me was to follow my heart and to do what I wanted at that moment. I had been interested in drawing and handcrafting since I was a child, unintentionally choosing illustration as my major in college makes more sense the more I reflect on such an important life decision. Even in my final year of college, I managed to create some original characters whenever I could find some free time.

Where does your inspiration come from?
No matter if it’s painting, sculpting, or art toy designing, they all come from my own emotions, and I aim to craft my experiences to touch peoples’ hearts. To have the opportunity to create toy designs as a job is a dream come true.

What does the design or the story of Yoki mean?
The story of Yoki’s design is that he was born from a little crystal floating in outer space. I imagined him landing on our planet and traveling around our world, going to places such as Beijing, Paris and London. I used to travel during my school holidays, and I miss those times too. I hope we will all be able to travel again soon.
